2022 Golfweek Senior Challenge Cup: Stacked field

Dec, 2022

The 2022 Golfweek Senior Challenge Cup goes beyond being the final event of the season. It is a chance to share stories, camaraderie and healthy rivalries.

The 54-hole stroke play event, which will take place at Jacaranda Golf Club, just outside Ft. Lauderdale Florida, will feature four age groups, ranging in age from 55 to 75. The Challenge Cup not only crowns individual medalists for each age division but also features a team element.

Bragging rights and player-of-the year points are up for grabs. But, the most important World Amateur Golf Rankings points are also up for grabs. The 20 highest ranked senior amateur men in WAGR will be exempted from the 2023 U.S. Senior Amateur. Every event is important, even though the points race for senior American am finishes in August.

The 2022 Golfweek/USA Today Sport Player of Year Rusty Strawn, and the 2021 Golfweek/USA Today Player of the year Craig Hurlbert will be captaining both teams. Strawn has just completed an extraordinary year, highlighted by wins at both the U.S. Senior Amateurs and Canadian Senior Amateurs. After taking a break to start a new venture, Hurlbert will be back in the saddle. He has raised over a billion dollars of investment capital for Local Bounti.

They have plenty of firepower to back them: 2021 U.S. Open low-amateur Billy Mitchell, Golfweek No. 2nd-ranked senior am Kevin Vandenberg, and 2022 Yancey For Award winner Joe Pavoni.
