Torrey Pines is hosting the “weekend” one day earlier than usual. The 2023 Farmers Insurance Open will be held Wednesday through Saturday to avoid any collision with the NFL Conference Championship Sunday.
With two rounds remaining, many of the big names are still in contention for Thursday’s second round.
Jon Rahm was at risk of missing the cut most of the day, before going on an emotional back-nine. He played Nos. He played Nos. 5-8 on the North Course at 5 Under to reach 4 Under for the tournament.
Jason Day stood 6 under in the 18th fairway on the South Course’s South Course when he hit his second shot into the Par 5 and found water. Although he was unable to stand, he is still 5 under and has a chance of winning his third Farmers.
Max Homa shot four consecutive birdies on Thursday’s front nine to climb to the top of the leaderboard. Friday will be his first round at 6 under, six behind Sam Ryder.

Pay attention to the players
Max Homa Three world No. California has been home to 16 of his PGA Tour victories. He has been a great ball striker during the second round of the South Course, ranking third in SG. Tee to Green. Homa can catch Ryder if he minimizes his mistakes over the second round.
Taylor Montgomery: This Tour rookie has been part of the mix throughout the season. Montgomery was solo fifth at The American Express last week and has eight top 20s in nine starts, including four top 10s. Montgomery can rock the rock like the best, so be careful when his putter gets too hot.
Sahith Theegala The fan-favorite is at 6 under through 2 rounds, six back from Ryder. Theegala is a natural birdie-maker, which is what you need to close large gaps. He is still looking for his first win on Tour.
