2023 Genesis Invitational: Max Homa is leading, Jon Rahm’s lucky Eagle & Tiger sweat out the cut among 5 things you should know about Round 2

Feb, 2023

PACIFIC PALISADES (Calif.) – Max Homa described the second round of his fight in one word: scrappy.

He said, “It was quite fun to rely upon my short game and have that bail me out.” “I have been trying to change a weakness into something that is at least average. It was amazing to have it become a strength today.

Homa shot 3-under-68 at Riviera Country club on Friday to shoot his 13th consecutive round of par or better at The Genesis Invitational. Homa improved to a 36-hole total 10-under 132, a one-stroke advantage over Jon Rahm and Keith Mitchell.

Homa missed the first hole with a birdie, and Homa then made bogeys at 6 and 8, but rebounded to score four birdies in a 5-hole stretch.

He said, “I am doing a great job of not dwelling upon bogeys or thinking that my golf game isn’t there.” “I thought that I did a good job on the front nine, knowing that I would play better.”

Between Nos. 9 and 13, the lone non-birdie. He saved par from a fried egg lie in the front bunker and may have been the most remarkable of the three.

Homa stated that she deserved it. However, it was oddly enough that if the plug hadn’t been plugged and repositioned in the middle bunker, I don’t think I would have been able to get it as close.” It was an oddly lucky break.

Homa, the 2021 winner of this event, leads the field in putting with 36 holes. He has gained more than three strokes each round.

He said, “I see the bumps on poa annua’s green, and I don’t cringe. It doesn’t give me the chills, it’s something I like.” “I understand people will get frustrated, and that’s what I like about a competition.”

Homa was happy to have his 18-hole lead for the first time and was proud to be able build on it on Friday.

He said, “I feel like I should do this when I’m playing good,” and he agreed. It’s thrilling, the 36-hole leads are amazing. There’s still a lot to do, but I can take comfort in the fact that I’m playing good golf. I’m going to continue trying for that for at least two more days.
