AUGUSTA (Ga.) – Dustin Johnson didn’t try to hide the differences between Orange Country National’s Crooked Cat Course, which was the location of last week’s LIV Orlando event and Augusta National Golf Club where this week’s 87 Masters took place.
Johnson stated, “I don’t believe you could have them in the same sentence. Other than I played there last year and I’m here this week.”
Both have National in their names, but that’s the extent of the similarities. Orange County National, a 36-hole public course in Winter Garden, Florida ranks No. 20 on Golfweek’s Best Courses You Can Enjoy in Florida. This is two places behind TPC Sawgrass. Augusta National is third on the Golfweek’s Best Classic Courses list. Crooked Cat, which was host to PGA Tour Q-School in past years, looked pretty shabby last weekend for Brooks Koepka, Phil Mickelson , and Johnson.
Graeme McDowell gently stated it: “A golf course potentially wasn’t ready to us.” “Aesthetically, not very pleasing.”
Sources inform Golfweek, that the Isleworth Golf Club in Orlando, where Tiger Woods used to live, and Charles Howell III, a LIV member, had offered to host the Orlando stop. However, they pulled the plug, and Crooked Cat took over as a late replacement. LIV never announced that Isleworth would be hosting a tournament. It is located near Lake Nona, where LIV golfers McDowell and Ian Poulter call home.
Harold Varner III. This is a wonderful place with a great layout. It’s just not in the best shape right now. It will take some time to find courses that accept LIV. Sponsorship is not something that everyone wants to do.
Johnson, the 2020 Masters winner isn’t worried about the course quality. He played what’s arguably the most well-maintained course in the country with some of its fastest greens. Johnson was happy to practice before he attempts to win another Green Jacket.
“I still play for a living golf. Johnson stated that he is enjoying the week at the Masters. It’s still golf. It doesn’t really matter where you play.
