SAN ANTONIO — The 2023 Valero Texas Open was attended by players hoping to gain a berth in next week’s Masters. They were met with howling winds, thick fog and a lot of downtime on Thursday.

This didn’t seem like a problem to Matt Kuchar or Padraig Harrington who both posted a 68 to claim the lead after the first wave.

There were many stories to keep golf enthusiasts talking at TPC San Antonio’s Oaks Course. These included Rickie Fowler’s solid start, Matt Wallace’s big drives, and Rickie Fowler’s strong start. Wallace also came straight from winning the Corales Puntacana Championship in Texas.
