Who it’s for: For golfers who desire more forgiveness than traditional wedges, but without sacrificing spin.
The Skinny CBX Full Face 2 has the largest face of any Cleveland wedge. It is combined with perimeter weighting and tour-level grooves and a water repellant treatment to give it forgiveness and control.
The Deep Dive: Wedges are not the type of club where there is a lot technology. While drivers have adjustable weights, irons can have exotic materials, putters can be shaped and milled into unique designs, wedges are the same as they have been for decades. However, the Cleveland CBX Full Face 2 wedges have many technologies that make them easier and more forgiving. This helps golfers achieve better results on the greens.
CBX Full Face 2 wedges feature a high-toe design with the largest area of any Cleveland wedge. It is 13 percent larger than the RTX Full-Face and, unlike the RTX Full-Face 2, the CBX Full-Face 2 has perimeter-weighting.
The CBX Full-Face 2’s heel and hosel are made from a vibrating material Cleveland calls ZipCore. This is in addition to the stainless steel. This shifts more weight to the toe side, and the additional mass in the toe area pulls the center gravity closer to the middle of hitting zone.
The CBX Full Face 2 wedges were designed by Cleveland to help golfers make more spin on chips and pitches. These are more precise, deeper, and more tightly packed than the ZipGrooves of Cleveland’s CBX full-face wedge. Designers were able to add two additional grooves to the area.
Cleveland created the CBX Full Face 2 wedges HydraZip to help golfers keep spin when hitting shots from wet grass and rough. To make the clubs feel more like extensions of golfers’ irons, the 50-degree and 52-degree models have a more open design. The HydraZip pattern in the 54, 56, 58, 58, and 60-degree wedges is denser to give more spin to shots around the greens.
Cleveland added a vibration-dampening polyurethane insert at the back of each club for an enhanced feel.
The CBX Full-Face 2 is now available with loft-specific sole designs. The full soles of the 50- and 52 degree wedges are designed with more bounce behind the leading edge to allow the club to work through the turf and keep speed for approach shots. The 54- to 60 degree wedges have a C-shaped sole design that has material removed from the toe and heel areas. This allows golfers to open up the face to add loft and keep the ball under the ball.
