LA QUINTA (Calif.) — The American Express golf tournament features 156 amateur golfers each year. They are often there to have a memorable moment, or to network with other big-wigs.
Amateur golfers pay $29,000, which includes three rounds of play, six PGA Tour pros and private parties at night. It is also partially tax deductible as it goes to charities. Adam Fuller has achieved this goal.
Fuller, a 51 year-old Atlantan, was participating in the event for the second consecutive year. He had a magical moment Saturday on Nicklaus Tournament Course.
His nine-iron flew into sun on the eighth hole at 141 yards. It landed 15 feet in front and was rolled in for a hole in one.
“The sun made it difficult to see, and the pin was in front right. I was aiming approximately 10 feet from the pin. Fuller stated that the pin rolled in and went approximately five feet to the left. However, we were not sure at first. It was unbelievable to me.
Fuller holds a handicap of 2 and this was not his first hole-in one. It was actually his fifth. It was his fifth while playing golf last summer with his wife.
Fuller, who was paired with Robby Shelton and Ben Taylor for the memorable moment, said that it was “but it was the first one” in competition. On Friday, he played with Sam Burns, Harris English, Wyndham Clark, and Harry Higgs.
Fuller stated that his only regret was not having gotten the ace from one of his pro-am playing partners. However, it will always live in Fuller’s memory as a moment he will never forget.
Fuller stated, “It was funny because I was taking inventory of how beautiful this area is and I was just thinking about how lucky I am to have been here.” It’s perfect weather when you look at these mountains. It’s the best thing in the world for me.”
