Sam Ryder likes to birdie his first hole. He did that by sinking a 40-footer on Friday. You can’t birdie all the holes if you don’t birdie one. Ryder almost did it, with seven birdies in his nine first holes to shoot 29. Ryder also raced to a five stroke lead at the World Wide Technology Championship at Mayakoba, Riviera Maya, Mexico.
Ryder stated, “I didn’t really miss any shot on the first nine.”
The 32-year old, who played college golf at Stetson University signed for 6-under 65 at El Camaleon Golf Course, and a total 36-hole score of 13-under 130.
Ryder is still looking for his first PGA Tour title. Ryder tried to not think about his lead while he played the back nine.
He said, “But it’s impossible not to know that, OK. I have five shots on my field right now or it creeps into.”
Ryder’s lone bogey was at 10 and he blamed it on “an uncommitted golf swing.” However, he made some crucial par saves at No. 13: Ryder hit into a penalty zone but was able to save par.
He was then asked how his 17-foot birdie putt, which was rimmed out, did not go in.
He said, “I don’t know how it missed, but I made plenty.” “The hole looked pretty large. Anytime I was within 20 feet, I felt I had a good chance.
