Greg Norman, LIV Golf CEO, was subpoenaed by Nicklaus Companies to obtain documents regarding Jack Nicklaus’ quote

Apr, 2023

Greg Norman’s comments on Jack Nicklaus have the LIV golf CEO involved with another lawsuit.

Nicklaus Companies issued Norman a subpoena on March 20 in respect to his comments on Jack Nicklaus, which appeared in the Washington Post article titled “The Shark is on The Attack Again” on June 5, 2022.

Norman stated that Nicklaus had sent Norman an email saying: “The new Tour had his blessing.” Norman claims that the email was sent after Nicklaus attended LIV presentations. All documents relating to claims in the article are subject to subpoena.

The Nicklaus Companies is also suing Jack Nicklaus. They are seeking records of communications between Jack Nicklaus and the Nicklaus families or their representatives, as well as LIV Golf.

Norman must provide all requested documents within 20 working days after the notice was served.

The Nicklaus Companies sued Jack Nicklaus in May 2022, mostly for a breach of contract. The Supreme Court of New York filed a complaint claiming that Jack Nicklaus didn’t have the legal right not to compete for business with the Companies.

Jack Nicklaus founded the Nicklaus Companies, but Nicklaus left the Companies in June 2017.

Nicklaus stated last year that he declined LIV’s $100 million offer to become the CEO of LIV Golf Series. Nicklaus didn’t want to be in conflict the PGA Tour which he created. All LIV golfers were banned from the PGA Tour.

Nicklaus met representatives from LIV Golf at Jupiter’s Bear’s Club. Nicklaus stated that the meeting was out of good courtesy as he had been involved in a deal with LIV Golf for more than two years.

Norman might have difficulty handing over documents that were related to LIV Golf, as LIV is currently in antitrust litigation in the U.S. District Court of San Jose. That court could prohibit any disclosure of documents.
