PHOENIX — This week, the 28-event PGA Tour Champions schedule crosses over to the finish line in Phoenix.
However, there won’t be any repeat champions at Phoenix Country Club 2022.
The Champions circuit uses a similar system to the PGA Tour’s playoff to decide its season champion.
Unlike the PGA Tour where the winner at the Tour Championship finale is also eligible for the season title, the PGA Tour Champions finale usually produces two winners. Phil Mickelson won the 72 hole tournament in 2021. Bernhard Langer took home his sixth Charles Schwab Cup series title.
There will not be any title defenses in 2022. Mickelson, the fan favorite, won’t return to the tournament. Langer is too far behind in the points to win this series title.
