The Hanwha Lifeplus International Crown returns to the LPGA calendar for the first time in 2018.
The event is one of the most unique on the golfing calendar. It pits eight top countries (based on Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings), in match play, against each other from May 4-7. The tournament this week will take place at TPC Harding in San Francisco. This is the fourth edition of the event.
Team England is trying to beat Team Korea and the United States, which have both dominated this event.
England will try to achieve this without Georgia Hall and Charley Hull. The two players withdrew on Saturday, and officials are scrambling to find replacements. Hall said Golfweek that she had been struggling with her left leg for several weeks. Hull told Golfweek that she had not felt well and was planning to visit a doctor at home.
Their Team England teammates are not happy about their decision. Bronte Law, Jodi Ewart-Shadoff and others said that they did not learn about Hall and Hull’s decision until the following Sunday. Law joked she learned of it through “Chinese Whispers,” a British game similar to telephone where information is repeated.
Law stated during a TPC Harding Press Conference that anyone with a reasonable level of decency, would let their teammates know they were not coming. They wouldn’t wait to hear from other players who heard them say things last week at the tournament. “I don’t think it’s too much to ask.”
Alice Hewson, a member of the Ladies European Tour, and Liz Young, a member of the English four-player squad flew into England on Sunday.
Law expressed his happiness at the presence of both Alice and Liz. “They are both very patriotic and very team-oriented and I think that is a testament of kind of what the tournament is all about. It is more important than individual members in the team.”
I know they will fight with all their might.
Law says she did not receive any messages from Hall until Hull apologized for being unable to play on Tuesday.
She said, “But that’s beside the point.” “We are here and this is Team England.
The competition begins on Thursday. This year’s competition features eight teams: the United States, South Korea (Japan), England, Thailand, Australia, and China.
