The defending champion Max Homa shot a 1-under-70 in the first round, while Rory McIlroy – who won at QHC last year despite being 34 years old – shot a 3-under-68 in the same round.
Tommy Fleetwood is still looking for his first PGA Tour win. He holds the lead after 18 holes thanks to a 6-under 65.
