Block, 46, head professional of Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club, Mission Viejo in California, birdied the first hole to tie Bryson deChambeau for second. He birdied his third and five holes.

He was in the company such notables as Dustin Johnson and Justin Rose early in the second day of the PGA Championship. He ended up shooting a 2nd consecutive round of 70, to ensure he would make the cut. He finished the day tied for 13th.

He had become a sort of cult favourite by Sunday, attracting crowds and cheers before this round.

Block is a club pro who has been named the Southern California PGA Player of the Year nine times in the last 10 years (2013-2022, with 2017 being the exception). In nine of the 10 years since 2013 (2013-2022), with 2017 being the exception, he has been named Southern California PGA player of the year. He is also a former California State Open winner.

Steve Schneiter tied for 40th place in 2005 at Baltusrol, the last PGA Professional who finished among the top 40 of the entire championship.
