DUBLIN, Ohio – Dylan Frittelli continues to struggle on the PGA Tour.
The 32-year old South African withdrew on Thursday from the 2023 memorial tournament after playing 14 holes at Muirfield Village Golf Club in 15-over-par. Frittelli blamed illness for his early departure.
Frittelli has been in a slump for the past 11 starts. He’s missed 7 cuts and withdrawn 2 times. Frittelli has failed to make the cut in four of his last five starts. He was on track to extend that streak to five before he canceled his round.
Frittelli started off modestly and was one over after his first round. He had stuck his approach shot to 7 feet on No. Frittelli made his only birdie on the day at No. 6 after sticking his approach to 7 feet. His round started to unravel shortly after. The slide began with a bogey on the par-5 6th hole. He finished the front 9 with a double bogey 6. Then, the wheels came off. Back-to-back triple-bogeys on Nos. The wheels came off at Nos. 10 and 11 and Nos. Twelve and fourteen were sandwiched between bogeys at 13 and 12.
Frittelli withdrew also from the RBC Heritage tournament in April, after shooting an opening round 80.
Frittelli has won the 2019 John Deere classic. He was ranked No. The FedEx Cup standings show that he is 138th.
