TaylorMade launches the Stealth Black irons for game improvement

Jun, 2023

Most irons are silvery-chrome for intermediate and advanced golfers. Since about a decade, some manufacturers have released irons with darker tones. They often apply a PVD (physical vapor deposit) finish on top of steel to give them a black, or almost-black, look. Black is slimming for clothing companies, and golf clubs have realized that players like the unique look of black irons.

TaylorMade released the Black P*790 Irons in April. The clubs became a social media hit.

TaylorMade has released the Stealth Black Irons, which are a darker version of the Game Improvement Clubs the company launched last season.

The Stealth Black Irons are also PVD finished, just like the P*790 Black Irons. This finish is durable and strong, according to the company, but it will wear out and fade with time, especially in the area of the irons’ sole and the hitting area.

The Stealth Black Irons perform the same as the standard Stealth Irons. TaylorMade created the hollow-bodied heads with 450 stainless steel surfaces to flex effectively at impact to increase ball speed. TaylorMade’s Stealth Irons have a polymer cap covering the back section of the head, instead of using steel. The cap is strong and sturdy, but it’s also lighter. This allows more head weight to be placed lower on the club. This helps lower the center of gravity and encourages higher-flying golf shots.

The 4-iron through 8-iron feature a Speed Pocket slot that allows the lower part of the face to flex easier on thin shots. An internal polymer piece, which TaylorMade refers to as an Echo Dampening System, reduces excessive vibrations for improved sound and feel.

TaylorMade Stealth Irons are equipped with KBS Max Mt shafts in black and Lamkin Crossline 360 grips in black. The clubs are available from 4-iron to Attack Wedge (49-degrees) and cost $1,199.99 for a complete set.
