The first six TGL team ownership groups have been officially announced.
Los Angeles Golf Club will be the first team in TGL. TGL is a new tech-infused sports league developed by Tiger Woods’ TMRW Sport and Rory McIlroy. It was announced last august. LAGC is owned by Seven Seven Six (776) founder Alexis Ohanian and will include tennis stars Serena Williams and Venus Williams.
Ohanian is the husband of Serena and the creator of Reddit. He also owns the Los Angeles National Women’s Soccer League team, Angel City FC.
Los Angeles is the ideal home for our TGL Team. “This city is the perfect backdrop for the excitement and innovation we want to bring to golf and its fans,” Ohanian said.
Here’s a format for those who are unfamiliar with TGL’s plans:
Six teams, each consisting of three PGA Tour pros, will play 15 regular season Monday night matches. Semifinals and finals will follow in January 2024. The matches will take place at a short-game facility with a high-tech twist. Fans will have the opportunity to watch every shot on primetime TV during a two-hour broadcast.
Woods and McIlroy broke ground at the TGL venue in Palm Beach State College in February. Twelve players, including Woods, McIlroy and Justin Thomas, have already committed to TGL.
I am thrilled to announce @wearelagc – @tgl‘s inaugural team. An important part of Los Angeles Golf Club is making golf our own, for everybody, and I couldn’t be more excited to shape the future of this sport with my family @alexisohanian @OlympiaOhanian @Venuseswilliams pic.twitter.com/yfreL6jqM8
