SPRINGFIELD (N.J.) — Celine bore carried her bag on the Epson Tour, where she placed sixth in the money list and qualified for the LPGA. Borge, who is in the middle of her first year on LPGA, still doesn’t feel comfortable having someone else carry her bag. She’s had a local caddie with her every week of this season. Even here at the KPMG Women’s PGA where a Baltusrol Looper helped her share the clubhouse leader after a 2-under 69 on the famed Lower Course. She didn’t ask for his help on the greens.
Borge said, “I’m just trying to do what I have always done. Just play my own game. (I need) someone to carry the bags.”
Borge is currently ranked No. Borge, who is currently ranked 228 on the Rolex Rankings has played 10 times so far on LPGA and achieved three top-20 finishes. This week, the Norwegian makes her second major career start after missing out at the Chevron Championship.
The 24-year-old was bogey-free on the day, until she reached par-3 nineth where she recorded the only blemish.
She said, “I just tried to do my very best and see what happens.”
Corey Birch was Borge’s eleventh caddie for the season. He grew up just 20 minutes away from the Springfield club, and he had started with an insider job. After Corey Birch played well in a club caddie competition, the caddiemaster asked him why he didn’t loop.
Birch, 27, is one of the few local caddies who was selected for a new job this week. He usually does 10 loops around the Upper and Lower Courses of the club each week.
Birch said, “We are a very active club and I am fortunate to be here.” You could say that a lot of people refer to it as a golf manufacturing facility. “We never sleep.”
