HOYLAKE (England) — This week marks a year since the death of Southport’s player Tommy Fleetwood’s mother Sue. Fleetwood is looking to celebrate the anniversary by putting on a good show in front family and friends.
The 32-year old will start his latest Open campaign on Thursday at 9:47 am local time, alongside Adam Scott and Scottie Scheffler in the first round.
Fleetwood, ranked 21st worldwide, said at a recent press conference that “it’ll be different.” It’ll be one year next Friday. We all know it’s going to happen. It’s nice to know that she is watching over.
“It will be a very special event.” I’d love to do well, and I’d love to have a chance to win on Saturday and Sunday.
“Everyone is doing well. I have an amazing family, a lot support and my father is here.” The best part is to see how well he is doing, and give him something to watch this week.

Fleetwood stated that “winning a major or The Open would be a great, big dream.” No matter where it is, I have always visualized that and thought about that. But, to be able to do that so close to home is very special.
“I’ve definitely pictured and visualized this a lot.” “I haven’t actually done it in person yet, but that will hopefully be the next step.”
Fleetwood is confident that his grouping in the first two rounds of the tournament will bring out the best in him.
