Christo Lamprecht, who stands at 6’8″, uses unique clubs in the 2023 Open

Jul, 2023

Christo Lamprecht, a South African amateur, carded seven birds on Thursday to take an early lead in the 151st British Open being played at Royal Liverpool Golf Club. Georgia Tech’s Christo Lamprecht, who won the British Amateur Championship last year to earn a place in the field, stands out because he is six feet eight inches tall.

Golf equipment on the walls of pro shops is designed for golfers with “average” heights and weights. However, golfers taller or smaller often require clubs in non-traditional sizes. Lamprecht, the tallest Georgia Tech player ever, is in this category.

Lamprecht uses a Ping G430LST with a loft of 7.5°, fitted with a Mitsubishi Kuro Kage XT 70TX shaft. The finished club length is 46″, which is the maximum legal length of non-putters. Lamprecht’s long arms, combined with his long driver, help him achieve incredible clubhead speeds and distance. On Thursday, Lamprecht averaged 325 yards for his tee shots, 33 yards more than the average distance of golfers at the morning tee time. His longest drive was 363 yards.
