Christo Lamprecht experienced the British Open in full on Friday.
After a first round of 5-under-66, the amateur, a rising Georgia Tech senior who won the Amateur Championship last month, was tied for the lead.
In the second round it was the complete opposite of his amazing start. Lamprecht went out in 5-over-40, bogeying five of his seven first holes. He didn’t make any birdies and finished with an 8-over-79 at Royal Liverpool. This was 13 shots worse than the score he had on Thursday.
Lamprecht struggled to get off the tee on Friday. His first tee-shot went nearly 50 yards left. It was then a fight for the 18 holes, as he moved from T-1 to make the cut.
Lamprecht’s first major start will give him invaluable experience. He’ll get a Silver Medal as well.
Lamprecht, who stands at 6’8″, is the only amateur in the field to have made it through. He will receive the Silver Medal and low amateur honors on Sunday in Hoylake.
Lamprecht, who is a senior at Georgia Tech in 2024, has already received invitations to the Masters and U.S. Open. 2.
Lamprecht will be looking to recreate his first-round success this weekend.
