ASHLAND (Ohio) — After a recent auction, a golf course in Ohio that was voted the Ohio public course of the year only 15 years ago could be permanently closed.
Kaufman Realty held an online auction last week and sold Mohican Hills Golf Club for $2.43 Million. 91 bidders registered. Tim Miller was the auctioneer/realtor. Miller said that the auction was a success. The group who purchased the golf course requested to remain anonymous until the close of the sale.
Jack Kidwell designed the 18-hole golf course between Cleveland and Columbus.
The transfer could take up to six weeks, according to a spokesman for the Ashland County Auditor’s Office.
Joseph Shrock, of Shrock Premier Custom Construction in Loudonville, purchased the property in November 2022 with plans to build housing on over 226 acres.
Shrock claimed he had never intended to use the land as a course. However, when he built another property south of Belleville, he decided he would resell Mohican Hill and hoped that the new owners will keep it a course.
The property was used as a golf-course in the spring and early summer.
