Jasmine Koo tops Sadie Englemann to capture 123rd Women’s Western Amateur

The Women’s Western Amateur was a memorable week for the USC women’s golf team.

The top seed in match play went to sophomore Catherine Park, who won the stroke play. Jasmine Koo a 17 year old Trojans Class of 2024 committed, won the W.A. Alexander Cup, in amateur golf. Koo defeated Stanford rising senior Sadie Englemann by a score of 4 to 2 on Saturday, at White Eagle Golf Club near Naperville in Illinois.

Koo stated, “I didn’t know what to expect when I entered the week and to win it all is an honor.” This is my biggest win, and I will always remember this week.

Koo, ranked 13th on the Golfweek/Sagarin Ranking made six birdies during the championship match, etching her name onto the W.A. Alexander Cup, and became the first junior since 2015 to win the Women’s Western Amateur.

She played 116 hole this week and finished 27 under par with 34 birdies. Koo, who is a rising senior in high school, finished third at stroke play.

The Women’s Western Amateur has been held annually without interruption, since 1901. It is one of the oldest and most prestigious championships for women’s amateurs golf. The Women’s Western Golf Association, in conjunction with the Western Golf Association, organizes the tournament.
