The Memphis Tigers, like many college basketball teams , are on an overseas preseason tour . Penny Hardaway and her group are in the Dominican Republic, visiting the Casa de Campo Resort. The Memphis Commercial Appeal reported that the team played night golf at the resort.
Ashton Hardaway and Carl Cherenfant took turns showing their golf swings on the special after-dark driving course Tuesday night.
Nick Jourdain, a few tee box away from the barbecue aroma and the softly playing reggae covers of “Titanium”, “New Kid In Town”, and “Titanium”, quietly demonstrated a powerful stroke. His glow-in the-dark golf ball landed well beyond the nearest neon-lighted markers.
Caleb Mills was the star of the show, JJ Taylor played well and Penny Hardaway took some hacks when the night fell at the Casa De Campo Resort. Memphis basketball began its week-long exhibition tour in the Dominican Republic with a first-ever team bonding activity.
Jordan Brown, 6-11 Louisiana transfer who had his first Memphis practice on July 29, said: “It’s a bunch cool guys.” “I think it’s going to help in the long term having the opportunity to spend time together, get closer with everyone.”
Three games will be played on this trip, one of which is against the Dominican Republic national team.
Memphis will begin its regular season in 2023-24 with three games: against Jackson State on Nov. 6, at Missouri on Nov. 10, and against Alabama State on November 17.

Hardaway will miss all three matches, though, because he is suspended for recruiting violations that he committed almost two years ago.
