Sargent said in a press release that “it’s really amazing to have won the McCormack medal, especially when you look at the names of golfers who won it previously, and all the things that come with it, such as the major exemptions.” This achievement means a great deal to me. This is a goal I have set for quite some time, and now that I have achieved it, it gives me great confidence. “I’m honored to receive the medal.”

Sargent was the first amateur to accept an invitation to the Masters Tournament since Aaron Baddeley did so in 2000. He accepted the invitation last April. In June, he finished as the lowest amateur (T-39) at the U.S. Open held at Los Angeles Country Club. The native of Birmingham in Alabama will represent the United States at both the Walker Cup and the World Amateur Team Championship next week.
