Gary Woodland announced on Wednesday morning that he will be having brain surgery on September 18 to remove a lesion.
Woodland wrote: “I was first diagnosed with this disease a few month ago, and I have tried to treat the symptoms using medication.” After consulting with several specialists and talking to my family, I’ve decided that surgery is the best option.
I’m feeling good with my team and family by my side. I am so grateful for their love and support.
The 2019 U.S. Open winner has six top-25 finishes in 24 starts on the PGA Tour this season. He also earned two top-10 finishes at the Houston Open, and Genesis Invitational. Woodland has won four PGA Tour events in his career.
He has made it to the finals in three out of four majors. He tied for 27th at the Wyndham Championship, his last tournament, three weeks ago. However, he did not make the FedEx Cup Playoffs. This was the first time in 10 years that he had missed this series.
