The skinny: Tour Edge created a high-toe sand wedge by removing the weight from the back flange and adding thermoplastic polyurethane to soften its feel.

The Deep Dive. Elite golfers don’t like to see their irons with a lot of offset. It can make it difficult to shape shots and intentionally curve the ball. Back in the 80s and 90s, many elite golfers still use wedges that have offset. It helps them to keep their hands on the leading edge of the wedge and improves contact when chipping. Bernhard Langer was one of them. He recently asked Tour Edge for wedges with extra offset. The R&D team of the company got to work, developed wedges for the German Hall-of-Famer and are now releasing the Exotics wingsman wedges.

The Exotics Wingman wedge offset moves the leading edge forward so that your hands remain in front at impact. (Tour Edge)

Exotics Wingman wedges are forged to provide a better feel. They also feature a new Triple-Traction Face Design. Tour Edge mills main grooves in the high-toe hitting area. Microgrooves between each main grove are then milled to increase surface friction and roughness. The high-toe pattern and the multi-grooves on the face are designed to give golfers more spin and allow them to be more creative on the greens.

Tour Edge replaced the stainless steel on the toe and heel of the head with Vibrcor, a polymer that enhances the feeling. The material absorbs excessive vibrations, softening the impact.

The addition of TPU inserts at the back and toes and an extra mass in the toe area softens the feel and creates lower-flying shots. (Tour Edge)

The center of gravity is moved up by removing the steel from the bottom of the head and adding material in the toe. Tour Edge believes that the offset will help golfers achieve a more controlled flight and solid contact on pitch and approach shots.

The Exotics Wingman wedges have an adjustable weight at the back. Fitters can adjust the swing weight of the club based on the length and preferences of the golfer by swapping the 5-gram standard weight with other weights.

There are three different sole grinds available for the Exotics Wingman wedges. (Tour Edge)

The Exotics Wingman wedges are now available in three different sole grinds.

  • M/N Grind (Medium Turf/Neutral path): This wedge grind comes in lofts ranging from 50 to sixty degrees and features a 10 degree bounce.
  • F/S grind (Firm turf/Sweeping path): This low-bounce option is available in lofts ranging from 54-60 degrees. It’s designed to keep the ball under the edge of the sand wedge on tight lies.
  • Soft Turf/Digging path: This high-bounce option (12-14°) is ideal for golfers playing in soft conditions, or with a steep angle to attack. It should help keep the club moving during impact on fluffy sands and thick rough.
