The Skinny : Mizuno’s new driver is designed for players who are more advanced. It combines a lot of carbon fiber, a smaller head, and two weight tracks that can be moved. This driver will reduce spin and create a controlled, piercing flight.

The Deep Dive. At the beginning of this season Mizuno worked to gain more traction on the driver market. They released the 230 STZ and 230 STX, clubs that were designed to provide more forgiveness and ball speed to a variety of players. The ST-G driver will join those clubs in 2024.

Some people in the company think that the ST-G woods are the equivalent of the Mizuno Pro irons.

The club’s volume is 440 cubic centimeters, which is smaller than many clubs. It has a carbon-fiber crown that wraps around the sole and side of the club. The large carbon fiber crown is only 16 grams but its glossy black finish gives it a classic appearance in the address position.

Golfers will remember that the ST-G driver 2021 had three weight tracks. Two ran from front to rear, controlling draw and fade bias. A third track was located at the back of the sole, allowing players to adjust shot height. The new model has two tracks that do the work of three. Fitters and golfers can move the 7-gram-weights to either reduce spin to produce a lower flight of the ball or to increase spin to encourage higher flying drives. Weights can be placed on the same track in order to increase MOI, stability and draw bias.

The ST-G driver’s face is made of a titanium alloy Mizuno refers to as Beta Rich Ti-LFS. The LFS stands as lighter, faster and stronger. The material has also been heat-treated to make it stronger but not thicker or more heavy.

The ST-G also features a Cortech Chamber. This feature was first introduced in the 230 ST-Z driver and 230 ST-X driver of last season. The thermoplastic polyurethane is stuffed into a slot behind the leading edge of the sole to keep debris and water out of the head. Mizuno has added a stainless steel piece to the TPU piece. It runs from heel to toe. The Cortech Chamber allows for a more efficient flexing of the face on low-struck hits.

The ST-G driver is equipped with an adjustable hosel, which allows the player and the fitter to adjust the loft up to two degrees.
