Lexi Thompson is in for a busy week. First things first.
Thompson will go into the weekend tied with third place after shooting a second round of 6-under 65 in the 2023 Ascendant LPGA Benefitting Volunteers of America.
Thompson is four shots behind Hyo Joo at Old American Golf Club, The Colony in Texas. However, her game is on the rise.
She had a 3-1-0 Solheim Cup and then tied for eighth at the Walmart Northwest Arkansas Championship, her best LPGA finish this season. This was her first top-10 since November 2022. She tied for 19th place at the Kroger Queen City Championship a month earlier. She missed five consecutive cuts before that. In 2023, she has eight MCs.
After her round, she told Golf Channel that “it’s definitely improved.” “I have been working very hard all year. It was just a matter time and doing the necessary productive work. To see it payoff means a great deal. “I’m going continue to work hard.”
Kim was also the sole leader after the first round, with 10 under par. In 2023, the five-time LPGA champion hasn’t won a single tournament but she still has eight top-10 finishes including two second-place finishes.
She said, “I’ve been at the top a couple of times this season, but my weekend play hasn’t always been that good.” This week, I hope to concentrate more on my game and play just as well as on the first and today’s day. I want to finish strong.
