LOS CABOS – Cameron Percy, 49, has already submitted his application to PGA Tour Champions Q-School. He did this in December. The Aussie is still searching for his first PGA Tour victory, but he may be tempted to take a break from the senior circuit after Thursday’s performance in the World Wide Technology Championship.
Percy shot a 10-under 62 , including eight birdies and one eagle at El Cardonal in Diamante. This was his lowest score ever over 632 rounds of career spanning 20 years. Percy was two strokes ahead of four other golfers when play was stopped due to darkness.
He said, “I think I’m 152 on the FedEx Cup. So finishing Top 150 would be fantastic at my age.” “I’d like to do at least that. But if I keep the ball moving as I did today, then I should be able finish much higher than that and lead into Q School with the Champions Tour.” “Yeah, I am looking forward to it.”
Percy birdied his first three holes, and then spun a 70-yard pitch shot for an eagle on the par-5 sixth.
Percy stated that for about an hour-and-a-half, it didn’t really matter where he hit the ball. It went in.
He was 9-under-par through 13, but he made a par-three at 14. After a stellar performance, he sank a 15-footer at the final hole to round off his impressive display. He was already licking the chops for a second tee time in less than 12 hour on Friday at 6:25 am local time.
He said, “I will get the best greens. I must take full advantage.”
