Tiger Woods missed an incredible opportunity to say farewell to competitive golf.
Colin Montgomerie seems like he thinks so.
Woods made the cut in the two majors of 2022 and took the U.S. Open Off to ensure he was prepared for St. Andrews, the 150th playing of Open Championship.
Woods won two majors at The Old Course, and golf fans were treated to one of the most important subplots of the last major.
Montgomerie wasn’t the only one thinking that Woods might be in a better place to say goodbye. Montgomerie stated this on the Bunkered podcast:
“That was the right time. Everyone stands on the bridge and waves. It would have been a wonderful way to go. It was a full crowd, all the TV cameras from around the globe were watching him. He was walking up there by himself, and tears were evident in his eyes. It’s something I have done. You can’t beat it when the stands are full.
Montgomerie said that he does not see Woods winning more tournaments.
“I don’t see it happening. It would be great for the game and I would love it to happen. He should win. It’s not possible for me to see it happening.
Woods was able to play alongside Rory McIlroy at The Match’s semi-competition. At the 2022 PNC Championship, he’ll be paired up with Charlie, his son.
Woods stated that he would have a restricted playing schedule for 2023 at the Hero World Challenge eighteen days ago.
