United States Golf Association, and R&A confirmed early reports on Wednesday morning that golf ball rolling back is only a few short years away.
Golf’s governing body will begin changing the way golf balls are tested in 2028 to reduce the effect of distance on the sport. (Click here to learn more about how balls are being tested).
Almost every golf ball sold today, including the Titleist Pro V1, Callaway Chrome Soft and TaylorMade Tour B and Srixon Z-Star, would fail the new test. Balls that were previously legal but failed the test will be removed the Conforming Ball List, making them illegal to play official golf starting January 1, 2028.
Golf equipment companies, pro tours and players all had a lot to say about the news. What they said about the USGA’s and R&A’s announcement of a golf-ball rollback.
