Remember Christo Lamprecht the 6’8″ amateur who shared the lead in the first round of the 151st Open Championship held this summer?
He’s still good. He has the chance to make history in his native South Africa this weekend.
Lamprecht, a Georgia Tech senior, is at 8-under-136 after the second round of the 2023 Alfred Dunhill Championship held at Leopard Creek Country club in Malelane, South Africa. He is two shots behind Casey Jarvis, the solo leader.
Lamprecht would become the first amateur since Shane Lowry to win a DP World Tour tournament in 2009 if he were to win at this weekend.
He’s not at his best.
Lamprecht admitted that he had not wanted to play from tee to green. “I’ve made a lot good shots, but I’ve also made some bad ones. I got away with it a bit.” I suppose I have been lucky in some holes, but I’ve made the most of it. I’ve played smart golf.
“My swing isn’t where I want to be right now… But I’ve been doing really well, making lots of crucial putts. I’m just not hitting it in the right spots fortunately.”
Lamprecht’s second-round score of 69 included six birdies and only three bogeys. In a video that went viral, Lamprecht hit a 418 yard drive during the first round on Thursday.
What just happened? !

DP World Tour December 7, 2020
Lamprecht, who won the Amateur Championship this summer and earned the low amateur honors in the Open Championship was his highlight of that week after a 5-under-par opening round, and he held a share in the lead.
He has won two games at Georgia Tech this fall and is ranked No. The World Amateur Golf Ranking has him ranked No.
This weekend’s win would give him a huge boost into his final semester of college. He would become only the fourth amateur ever to win a DP World Tour.
Lamprecht: “Last weekend I played well and had a great time. I am looking forward to this weekend to put in a strong performance.”
