Keegan Bradley had the kind of day every golfer hopes for — a day where everything just fell into place.
Today was one of those great days, just as I did. “I could see every shot,” said he. “I had a blast with Scotty Vail, my caddie. We did a fantastic job together.
Bradley shot 7-under-63 at Wailae country club to share 54 holes in the Sony Open with Grayson Murray, who is at 14-under-196.
Bradley’s round began with a flawless drive, followed by a 6-iron that was spot on, and then a birdie-putting.
Bradley said, “I felt calm the whole day. That’s not normal for me.” This is a huge understatement coming from a golfer who is known to be fidgety.
Sony Open Tee times for the final round
Bradley stated that he had always enjoyed this tournament, and believed it was a place where he would be able to win despite not having ever finished in the top 10 of any previous 11 appearances. In the past, he blamed his poor record on a shaky putter. This week, Bradley has improved by more than two strokes at the greens. He is ranked T-11. Bradley’s belly putter was banned by the governing bodies, and he struggled on the greens. Now his putter is a weapon.
He said, “I didn’t know if I would ever get back to the level I was at with the belly putter.” “At this stage, I feel that I have surpassed it.” It was a long road of hard work, and many dark days.”
He hit a clutch sand at 16, and then put a 6 iron in 7 feet on the par-3 17, and made the putt.
He said, “Just a perfectly cut 6 iron in the wind.”
Bradley is aware that he won’t likely be able hit so many perfect shots during the final round. However, he is excited about the opportunity to win his seventh PGA Tour career title.
“I’ve played here before, and I’ve felt more confident than ever being in this situation,” Bradley said. Bradley has only won a tournament after converting a 54 hole lead or co-lead on five occasions during his career. “I look forward to more days like today.”
