David McLayKidd’s signatures can be seen on some of the most prestigious golf courses in America, including Bandon Dunes. Kidd, who is now located approximately 400 miles away from Washington, is about to create another masterpiece.
Westport Golf Links is nearing the end of the environmental review process. If approved, it could be a positive catalyst for the local economy. According to King 5 News , Westport projects that the course will create 350 new jobs and have a 20 million dollar annual impact.
Kidd stated that he loves golf and believes this offers a unique opportunity to this area, which is not available in Ireland or Scotland. It’s almost a crime there’s no true links-style course here on the Pacific Ocean.
Molly Bold is the general manager at the Westport marina. She knows how unique this piece of land can be.
Bold stated, “It’s wonderful as it is,” but that 600 acres of land on the Pacific Ocean offers a golden opportunity. It is time to make it available for everyone to enjoy.
Westport Golf Link’s web states that environmental impact will be a top priority.
Westport Golf, Inc. plans to build a championship links course and hotel on undeveloped land in Westport Light State Park. We are currently working with Washington State Parks, the City of Westport, to create a master plan for this park that will increase recreational access and identify areas for habitat restoration. We hope to provide a world-class experience both for golfers and outdoor enthusiasts by using environmentally sound design and engaging the community.
Residents are coming out in large numbers to learn more about the project.
Although the shovels haven’t yet hit the ground, Ryann Day (a Seattle contractor) hopes that the property will be home to golfers by 2025.
