The Skinny The ZX Mk II fairway woodens have a unique crown design and an internal sole weight that help them generate more ball speed.

The Deep Dive: Elite golfers often reach for fairway woodens to improve their accuracy off the tee. Sometimes they might grab one to tackle a particularly long par 5. For long par 4s or par 5s, recreational golfers rely on fairwaywoods from the tee to propel the ball as far and as often as possible.

Although there is only one ZX Mk II fairway club, Srixon actually designed two clubs, creating a pair driver-alternative 3-woods that can be used in conjunction with high-flying 5-woods or 7-woods.

Rebound Frame technology was used in the ZX Mk II fairway woodens. The stainless steel face hits the ball and flexes against topline, toe and leading edges. A second, flexible area around the head also bends back as the face strikes the ball. Both the flexible areas will snap back together and transfer more energy to the shot, increasing the ball speed. Srixon stated that the ZX Mk II fairway woodens produce 0.9 mph faster than previous generations, which can translate into 3-5 yards longer distance.

Srixon installed an internal weight pad, also known as a “Cannon Sole”, in front of the club to give shots more lift. The weight pad does not restrict the face’s ability to flex, but it drives the center of gravity lower, encouraging greater ball speed and higher launch.

The ZX Mk II fairway woodens have a crown that falls behind the topline. This Crown Step lowers the center of gravity. Crowns made of carbon fiber were used to create the 3+ and 3-wood. This reduces the weight at the top of your head and magnifies the Cannon Sole effect. The stainless steel crowns are used on the 5-wood and 7 wood.
