Tiger Woods won 14 of his 15 major championships with a Scotty Cameron Newport 2 GSS putter (German Stainless Steel), which he put into play for the first time in 1999. He still had the putter in his bag at the 2023 Genesis Invitational after all these years.
It is undoubtedly the most important and valuable piece of golf memorabilia ever made. I was able to get a close-up view this week at Riviera Country club.
Woods tried a Scotty Cameron puttergrip at 2022 PNC Champion. However, he has since returned to the Ping PP58 pistol grip which he uses mainly on the putter since 1999. Scotty Cameron’s grip was slightly heavier and larger than his Ping grip. This grip worked well after he added lead tape in the back cavity. The extra weight of the grip caused the putter to feel a lot more difficult when the lead tape was removed (you can still see the remnants of the tape in the back cavity). The lead has been removed and the Ping grip installed.
