A healthy Nelly Korda looks poised for another monster year, much like she enjoyed in 2021.
Korda, 25, won her second start of the 2024 season at home in Bradenton, Florida, and then promptly took seven weeks off. When she returned to action at the Fir Hills Seri Pak Championship, she showed little rust en route to her 10th career LPGA title. It marked her fourth career playoff victory.
“I never back down,” said Korda, who bogeyed the last two holes in regulation to get into a playoff against fellow American Ryann O’Toole. “I make sure I give it my all 110 percent every single time, no matter what the circumstances are.”
How did she respond? With another win in her next starts at the inaugural Ford Championship, T-Mobile Match Play and Chevron Championship.
A rookie on the LPGA in 2017, Korda’s Palos Verdes victory moved her back to No. 1 in the world for a sixth time. The daughter of two elite-level tennis players, Korda and her two siblings benefit not only from enviable genes, but from parents who have already traveled a similar road. Nelly’s older sister Jessica is a six-time winner on the LPGA while brother Sebastian is a rising star in tennis.
