A man is charged with killing a Canada Goose using a golf club at a New York course

Witnesses claim that a man allegedly beaten a Canada Goose to death on a New York Golf Course .

According to an article from our USA Today Network Partners The Journal News of Poughkeepsie Journal, and Times Herald Record of Middletown the incident occurred near the 14th green of the Putnam County Golf Course at Mahopac. Mahopac is located about one hour north of Manhattan.

In a Facebook post on Monday, the Putnam County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals responded to a report of an individual beating a goose at the Putnam County Golf Course.

In a statement, it was stated that the Putnam County SPCA accused the man of a misdemeanor for animal cruelty. The state Department of Environmental Conservation Police issued him a summons.

The Town of Carmel Court will hold an arraignment on Sept. 12.

The statement stated that on Friday, Putnam SPCA responded to an emergency call from the state DEC Police who were en route to the golf course to investigate a complaint about a golfer who had beaten a goose into death. SPCA detectives interviewed witnesses and staff at DEC and met with them.

Witnesses claimed that a Canada Goose had been struck by a ball of golf and was dazed. The golfer allegedly hit the goose with his club several times on the 14th-hole, then walked away and noticed that the goose was still moving. He returned and struck it again.
