After vandals damaged the course last weekend, a Michigan golf club could have to use temporary greens until 2023. This could cost the course more than $100,000.
Lake Doster Golf Club is located approximately 15 miles north from Kalamazoo but within easy driving distance of other cities such as Battle Creek or Grand Rapids. Although the 18-hole course has suffered minor damage from vandals in the past, it was nothing like Saturday’s discovery of multiple ruts deep within the course.
Matt Townsley, the club’s head professional, told Kalamazoo’s WWMT-TV he was shocked by the stupid act .
“Disrespect is not even close.” Townsley stated that the TV station had spent hours preparing the course for greatness. “Disrespect is not even close.”
“I am worried that they will have to totally tear down the green and resod it. They might have to provide temporary greens for the entire next year. It’s just not clear how to fix it.
As seen on social media, the damage was severe.
Townsley said that the suspect could face a felony charge. He also stated that the course had filed an incident report. Anyone who can identify the vandals is eligible for a reward from the course.
“I have had numerous, multiple people call me, text me. Although the outreach has been tremendous, it’s all very disturbing. Townsley stated that everyone is so upset by what happened.
