Qualifying School is the most difficult thing in golf. This is especially true for the LPGA’s eight round marathon, which began this week. For Alana Uriell, Friday’s LPGA Q-Series event in Mobile, Alabama was particularly brutal.
The 26-year old signed for a wrong score during the second round. He was penalized for signing for a par when it should have been a bogey. A LPGA media official reported that Uriell entered the tournament office after the fact, and self-reported his error.
Uriell opened the tournament with a 72-par 72. She would have been 4 under for tournament play and would have finished in 18th place. LPGA status is awarded to the top 45 players in this week’s tournament. After the first round, the field is reduced to the top 70 and ties. The rounds are played at Magnolia Grove over Falls and Crossings courses.
This former Arkansas player, who hails from Carlsbad in California, participated in 21 LPGA events this season. She was also 130 th on Race to CME Globe’s points list. This season, she earned $66,506
Manon de Roey and Riley Rennell lead the field at 10 under.
