Alex Noren and Aaron Wise are far from satisfied after the first round of 2022 Cadence Houston Open.

Nov, 2022

HOUSTON – Based on Aaron Wise’s attitude after his first 18 holes, it would have been easy to believe that he did poorly in the first round at the 2022 Cadence Bank Houston Open.

After his round at Memorial Park Golf Course, Wise was not only enthralled but also shook off all of his bogeys. He shot a stunning 5-under 65 to be in the lead after the morning wave. Wise is tied with Alex Noren at top, whose lone PGA Tour victory was in Texas at the AT&T Byron Nelson 2017.

Wise stated that he’s been in a strange place with his game. “I’ve just been playing poorly enough to shoot high scores, but there are just a few shots per round that frustrate me.” Wise said that it could also be due to the fact that I have played too many rounds of golf this season.

“I have enough time to clean up some things before tomorrow’s round and hopefully play a bit more solid, even if I were to take it again if you would.”

Wise’s highlight was hole No. He recorded four consecutive birdies from holes 3-6 to reach 5 under. He began on No. He made seven pars and then birdied the par-3 17th.

Wise stated, “I had a few great saves to shoot Bogey-free.” Sometimes you shoot bogey free and hit 18 greens. It was an easy round. It was bogey-free today, but it wasn’t stress-free.

Noren’s round ended with a birdie. Noren also began on the 10th hole. He stuffed his approach shot within six feet to get a circle on his scorecard. After a bogey on his first hole, he had four birdies in his second nine. Noren made the most of his opportunity with a fantastic tee shot on par-3 ninth. He drilled an eight-foot birdie for 5 under.

Noren, who is the winner of 11 international wins but not on the PGA Tour’s, was also feeling a little ill coming into the week.

Noren stated that she was nervous about coming in to today. “Didn’t feel great in practice, but found something that helped and felt a lot better. It was good.

David Lipsky shot 4-under-66 to lead the duo by one shot. Lipsky shot 5-under 66 with five birdies and no pars, but he bogeyed the 10th hole. He then made eight consecutive pars to complete his round. He has not won on Tour.

Lipsky stated that he took advantage of the birdie holes and held on to the ball on the back nine. “I believe there was a stretch when I missed three greens in succession, but got them all up-and-down.”

A large group of 3 under-par players includes Justin Rose and Zecheng Do, who were on top in the Korn Ferry Tour standings to earn their PGA Tour cards this summer.

Scottie Scheffler is the No. Scottie Scheffler, the No. 2 golfer in the world, was my favorite player coming in. He birdied three of his last eight holes to finish at even par 70.

Everyone is still chasing Noren or Wise. It is crucial to get off to a quick start on a course with winning scores of 13 under and 10 below.

Wise stated, “I’m anxious for that next win.” It feels like it was yesterday that I got the one I wanted. It’s one those situations where patience is key. It’s like, I don’t know if I’m going out to win this tournament. It’s impossible to control the quality of my shot or how well I putt. That’s why I will just focus on it and then, at the end of each week, just add them up to see where it leads.
