An Aussie amateur went viral after hitting a shot at 18th green from the Old Course’s Dunvegan pub.

AUGUSTA (Ga.) – Harrison Crowe is perhaps best remembered for his shot from the concrete sidewalk next to the Dunvegan pub onto 18th green at Old Course. Harrison won’t likely be hitting any trick shots from Augusta National’s Waffle House this week. However, the 21-year old amateur would love to have another go at skipping the ball on Augusta National’s par-3 16th after putting one in the middle.

Crowe was the one who answered the phone when Erik Anders Lang, a filmmaker, went to the Dunvegan looking for someone who could recreate the shot Ernie Els hit in the early hours of the morning.

Crowe decided to hit another bright red ball off the paving stones, instead of trying to get a long shot from a tee. He aimed over the chimney at the block’s end. Crowe’s St. Andrews stunt has almost 300,000 views and his second shot was successful.

He said that the reaction has been mostly positive since then.

He said, “A lot people have really come and helped me, especially when it came to the Australian Open at last year’s end.” “I was overwhelmed by the support from the crowd when I played with Cameron Davis and Adam Scott.”

Crowe was one of seven amateurs at the 87th Masters. He won the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship last autumn and beat Bo Jin at Amata Springs Country Club in Thailand by one shot. Crowe was three behind Jin at the turn, but he made four birdies over a span of five holes that began on No. 11 to change the tide.

Crowe also won the 151st British Open at Royal Liverpool.

Crowe enjoyed Monday’s play with fellow Aussies Min Woo Lee & Jason Day. He was thankful for their advice. He’ll be teeing it up on Tuesday with Cameron Smith, Adam Scott and Lee. Scott was the first Australian to win the Masters 10 years ago.

Day examines the technology available to young players today and finds that the process of improving is much more efficient than his generation.

Day said, “I think that just through the accessibility of like social media or other forms of that,” Day said, “you can view professionals and hit shots on the range and see what they are doing, how good they are, and then obviously that also helps with the coaching and that coaching aspect.”

“Back in the day when I was growing, FaceTime with my coach was not possible. It was not possible. There were no handheld cameras that could take video or cameras that could take videos. You can now take a video from your phone, send it to your coach, and then jump on FaceTime.

Crowe is not just looking to make it to the finals, but also to make some noise. Crowe told the Australian Associated Press this week that the Australian Press has set the bar too low for “if you don’t believe you can win.”

As he demonstrated in St. Andrews, he is not afraid to put on an act.

Crowe said, “I think hitting that shot just kinda shows who I am.” Crowe stated, “That I don’t really fear to give it a shot. It kind of shows a bit more about the Aussie culture; that we are laid back and ready to do anything.”
