Ann Sophie Bourgault wins Golfweek International Junior title to continue winning in the fall

Nov, 2023

Ann Sophie Bourgault is on a recent winning streak. She won a South Florida PGA Junior tournament two weeks ago with a 4-under 68 in the final round.

Bourgault won the Golfweek International Junior Invitational on Sunday with a 67-point final round at Celebration Golf Club, Orlando, Florida.

When asked to compare her Golfweek win with others in her short, but distinguished career, Bourgault replied: “It is definitely a significant tournament.” “It’s my first invitational, so I am proud to have won with such an amazing field of players and people.” “I think it’s up there for sure.”

Bourgault, who opened with 73 on Day 1, managed the wind better on Day 2.

She said, “It was a bit of a scrambling round,” referring to the first round. “I saved par a lot and that’s not the way I want to play.” Today, I just woke up. I stuck to my gameplan. Each shot was focused on and trusted myself.

“Today, I was able hit a number of fairways and greens. I also converted some birdies, so I just kept the game as simple as possible.”

Scores for the Golfweek International Junior Invitational

Bourgault’s last round at Celebration was her best ever and tied with her previous record. Bourgault won the Quebec Amateur Championship earlier in the fall with a final round 67. She won the three categories – junior, amateur and juvenile – to earn the title of Triple Crown winner.

Bourgault and her family, who go by the nickname of “AnnSo”, and wear those letters as a necklace in Naples, Florida for six to eight month a year, have been living there in Naples since the last four years. In the summer, they return to Quebec where Bourgault is a member of Royal Ottawa Golf Club.

Bourgault attended the Team Canada selection camp in 2014, but did not make the final roster despite the fact that the experience improved her game. The high school sophomore is hoping to play college-level golf in the U.S. She’s looking forward to this summer when coaches will be able to communicate with her. She’s working hard to improve her game and keep a record of the colleges she would like to play for.

Bourgault has always excelled at consistency. As a shorter hitter who is also a better hitter than most, her short game has to be on point. She has recently begun working on bringing coach Derek MacDonald home to Royal Ottawa, and she can see it paying off.

She said: “I’m working on improving my strength and distance. I want to keep working out.”

Bourgault mentions that she now works with a personal coach and that, besides golfing, CrossFit occupies a lot of her time. She doesn’t allow anything to remain a weakness.
