The sports worlds will collide Sunday, February 12, 2023 when the final round in the WM Phoenix Open ends less than an hour before Super Bowl 57 kickoff.
You can play golf in Scottsdale and then you can play football in Glendale.
This leaves little time for TPC Scottsdale players to get across town. However, there will be many fans and possibly some pro golfers who will try their luck.
What about tickets? Pat Williams, director of the 2023 WM Phoenix Open tournament, is sure getting bombarded by Super Bowl ticket requests.
“It’s interesting. He said that it felt like the opposite this year. All these players want to play on Sunday, and hopefully in the last group. The last putt will be made 30 minutes before kickoff. I believe these players would like to play on Sunday. We haven’t received many requests from players for Super Bowl tickets.
“We have seen a lot of people come out for the Super Bowl, whether it be the NFL or executives. They have asked to be there [at the Open].”
“Interestingly, the Eagles were one those teams that requested tickets. Maybe they knew something before everyone else about how great their football team would be. They’re going have people here on Saturday at tournament.”

Jordan Spieth, who was at TPC Scottsdale when the Super Bowl took place in 2015, was among those who saw it live. Spieth shot a final round 65 to tie for seventh, his best score of week. He then hustled across town.
“I did it in 2015, when it was available. I went with [caddie] Michael [Greller]. It was the Seahawks – Patriots and Michael is a huge Seahawks fan. That’s why they threw it instead. “I have been a Tom Brady guy. He is an Under Armour guy. So I was on the right end while Michael wasn’t. We were the only ones who went to that game together.
Arizona Super Bowls are memorable. After Justin Leonard had defeated Phil Mickelson in a playoff on Saturday, 1996, Larry Brown was able to pick off two passes for the Dallas Cowboys to defeat the Steelers.
After J.B. Holmes beat Mickelson in a playoff game, David Tyree made a memorable catch with his helmet to help New York Giants win the Super Bowl. This ended their perfect season.
Because of the way it ended, 2015 was a topic that was discussed for a while.
It was a wild ending. It was great. It was great. It made the Phoenix Open even more crazy than it was,” Spieth stated, adding that he will likely return to the football game once the tournament is over.
“I would guess more than 50% chance.”
