One PGA Tour player’s Sunday will be life-changing.
The top four players in the 2023 Barracuda Championship, which will be held at Tahoe Mountain Club, Truckee, California have never won a Tour event. Ryan Gerard, Akshay Bhattia and others weren’t PGA Tour members at the start of this season.
It’s possible that someone will hoist a trophy after Sunday’s finals.
Patrick Rodgers birdied 18th hole in Modified Stableford and earned two points to gain a point lead over Gerard heading into the final round. Rodgers has 34 points for the tournament after scoring eight points in the third-round. Gerard, the leader after 36 holes, failed to gain any momentum in moving day. He earned only three points, and now has 33 points.
Rodgers stated, “I was super proud of how I was resilient. I turned it around and knew that there were still many points to be gained.” “The eagle at 12 was huge and birdieing 2 of the last 3 was great to put myself in a strong position for tomorrow.”
Bhatia has made a significant move up the leaderboard. He is now in third place with 31 points after his 17-point performance. He shot an 8-under-63, with six birdies and one eagle.
Bhatia stated, “I’m sure I’m on the verge of winning.” It’s a great feeling. It’s important to finish in the top 10, gain points, and do everything else. It’s amazing how you can see things differently when you wish you had done certain things differently. I was so close to winning the trophy last week.
Beau Hossler is the sole fourth placer with 30 points. Joel Dahmen, who has 29 points, is fifth.
The opposite-field competition offers many opportunities for someone to achieve a career-changing win. On Sunday, the leaderboard will be set up to allow for this.
Gerard stated, “I think that any time you are in contention, coming down to the last round or last however many holes you have to play well to be in that situation.” “I’m just going to take it in stride, and trust that tomorrow will be a good day. I’m just going to do my best. Everything else is an added bonus.” We’re eager to see what happens.
