Beau Hossler was ranked 73rd on the FedEx Cup standings when he arrived at the Old Greenwood Course of Tahoe Mountain Club.
Only the top 70 players are guaranteed a spot in the Playoffs. There are only three events remaining for players such as Hossler, who want to secure their spot in the FedEx St. Jude Championship field in Memphis.
Hossler, after the first Barracuda Championship round in 2023, is trying to stay within the cut-line.
Hossler is the top leader in the Modified Stableford format after the first round of the Truckee, California tournament. His day was highlighted by his first ace in his Tour career on the par-3 3rd.
Hossler stated, “I was sort of between clubs.” “It was 211 but it played like 190 at altitude. It was a 7-iron that landed in the right spot, and went in. It seemed like the only hole in Tour this year without a camera.
Hossler made an eagle at the par-5 6th hole in addition to his ace. Hossler had two holes (+10, as eagles count for five points) and the first-round leader.
He had a 7-under-64 in stroke play, with four birdies (worth 2 points each), two eagles, and one bogey. (Golfers lose 1 point for bogeys). Hossler is yet to win a Tour event, but he has two runner-up finishes.
Hossler stated, “My game is probably feeling the best in years. That’s good.” “Maybe results haven’t been as good in the last few months, but I think I’m improving my golf swing. I’ve noticed a marked improvement in iron play over the past two weeks. “Hopefully, I can continue to do that and get my putter hot.”
Alexander Levy is second in the morning wave with +16. Carson Young and Patrick Rodgers both have +15. The Barracuda marks the only event on the Tour’s schedule that uses the Modified Stableford system.
