Bettor wins $150,000 after Nick Dunlap became first amateur to claim PGA Tour title in 33 years

Jan, 2024

As an amateur, Nick Dunlap had some of the longest odds in the field to win the 2024 American Express in La Quinta, California.

The 20-year-old Alabama sophomore made it onto the radar of at least one person, though, before the tournament started.

A FanDuel bettor in Iowa had $300 riding on Dunlap to win at 500-1 odds. And when Dunlap pulled off the incredible feat, the bettor won more than $150,000.

Dunlap is the first amateur to win a PGA Tour event since a 20-year-old Phil Mickelson won the Northern Telecom Open in 1991 in Tucson, Arizona.

Banking on something to happen for the first time in 33 years is a pretty good way to turn three figures into six.

Tournament favorite Scottie Scheffler finished tied for 17th.
