HARVARD

Naree Song has been the associate head coach of Harvard women’s golf for five years. Song is the third program head coach. Kevin Rhoads has been the head coach of the men’s golf team for 18 seasons. He also served as the women’s coach for 10 seasons.

Song enjoyed a distinguished playing career, and she quickly rose to the top of junior golf in the world. At 14 years old, she won the Thailand Ladies Open her first professional event. She went on to win three major AJGA championships and was a two-time AJGA All-American. At 14 years old, she competed in the U.S Women’s Open. She won low-amateur honours.

Song, who was 17 years old, attended the University of Florida. After one semester, Song became a professional golfer and competed on both the Symetra Tour and LPGA Tours. In 2004, Song won one event on the Symetra Tour.

She was injured and unable to play professional golf so she decided to study at Rollins College, where she became the Assistant Women’s Golf coach.

ARIZONA STATE

Arizona State announced that Matt Thurmond and Missy FarrKaye have been extended to the 2027-28 athletic year.

After a successful career as a coach at Washington, Thurmond was hired by Arizona State in 2016. The Sun Devils currently rank No. The Sun Devils are currently ranked No. 2 in the Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings going into the spring season.

“Coach Thurmond has brought us back into NCAA championship discussions with back to back top-five finishes for only the third time in three decades. He has done an amazing job with our alumni and former players. His ability to communicate with so many people is a major reason for Grayhawk’s success in the NCAA championships. Matt was a proven coach and he is able to mentor other coaches within our department. He also did an ASU master’s in coaching, which is amazing. He not only survived the pandemic but thrived.

Farr-Kaye was a college golfer for the Sun Devils. She also served as an assistant coach at Arizona State, and is now the head coach. She won her third NCAA championship as a Sun Devil in 2017, winning it as a player (1990), assistant coach (2009) and head coach (2017).

“We hired Missy FarrKaye, and she won a national championship because she was a player and assistant coach. Anderson said that her squads are always among the top 10, she is amazing with alumni, and she has won an NCAA championship as a Sun Devil player and assistant coach. Anderson added that she truly is one the greatest Sun Devils ever.”

LONG STREET STATE

Long Beach State announced that Rob Murray has been hired as the 12th Head Coach of its Long Beach State men’s golf program. Murray joins Long Beach State having previously been an assistant coach at Kansas State over the past six seasons. The Wildcats currently rank No. 19 in the Golfweek/Sagarin college rankings.

Ted Kadowaki, Interim Director of Athletics, stated that Rob is a joy to be the Head Men’s Golf Coach at Long Beach State University. We love Rob’s competitive drive, desire to create a program of sustained excellence and to build relationships within the community. He also leads the program with integrity.

Murray was previously employed at Indian Hills Community College, Ottumwa (Iowa) for four years prior to joining Kansas State. Murray spent his first two years as an assistant coach, helping the team win the 2015 and 2014 NJCAA Division I National Championships. After being promoted to head coach, he was awarded the 2017 Dave Williams National Coaches of the Year title. The team was the National Champion at the 2017 National Championship. Murray also coached Ricky Sanders, the 2017 Individual National Champion. He went on to win The 2017 Phil Mickelson award.

Murray, a native of Colchester in Essex, England, made his way to the United States to play at South Mountain Community College, Phoenix in 2007.

After Michael Wilson’s departure to Colorado State, Reilly Hegarty was the assistant coach. Long Beach State is No. 65 in the autumn season.
