HOYLAKE (England) — After the third round on Saturday, NBC’s Cara Banks questioned Brian Harman about his incredible putting performance. Harman, however, kept his cards close. He did not want to reveal any trade secrets.
Harman revealed his secret to improved putting after he won the Claret Jug by six strokes on Sunday. He’s been using a tool to improve his putting.
Harman said, “It looks silly and has a better release pattern.” He couldn’t remember what tournament he bought it at but recently pulled it from the barn in his farmhouse. “I had been cutting my putts a lot. “I spent a lot time feeling the ball and hitting it like a baby with my putter. It’s been really really good in the last few months.”
Brian Harman is relentless.

Harman, who didn’t give the name of the device but appears to be Short Game Gains Putting Mirror before using it, said he was considering giving up his TaylorMade spider putter. However, he said it wouldn’t be going anywhere soon after this week’s putting performance. Harman only made 23 putts on Thursday and 26 putts on Friday. His 106 putts total was the lowest of any British Open winner in the past 20 years.
Harman was the leader in Strokes Gained Putting (+11.57). He missed his first putt from within 10 feet on Sunday, but still managed to go 58/59 from 10 feet or in. This is what you do when you roll your rock.
