Brian Harman, the British Open champion, was back in his old haunts in Athens on Monday before he plays in the Tour Championship in Atlanta starting Thursday.
Kirby Smart, Georgia’s football coach, said on 960 the Ref: “I was able to take a photo with the jug.” “I saw that. It was pretty cool. “I didn’t even drink anything from it.”
Harman, who won the Claret Jug at the Royal Liverpool Golf Club in Hoylake (England), joins Bubba Watson, a two-time Masters Champion, as the only former Georgia golfers with a major title.
Smart did not make a big fuss about Harman’s chance to attend a meeting of the football team.
Smart explained, “I was afraid that nobody would recognize him. I wanted to introduce to the team.
Harman, a 36-year old Savannah native who won the trophy in Hoylake said that he was motivated by the words Georgia football coach Kirby Smart had said before the last season.
According to Golf Channel, Harman stated that he was “a wreck”. “I’ve been a wreck all week,” Harman said. But I kept thinking of something Kirby Smart once said: “I’m not going to be hunted, I’m going to hunt.” ‘”
Harman, 36 years old, did not relent after he held the lead in the second and third round. He had a five stroke cushion on Sunday at Royal Liverpool, in Hoylake (England) and won by six.
“Dawgs are on top!” Smart tweeted “Congratulations @harmanbrian,” Smart after the win.
Harman told journalists that after winning, he was impressed by the way Smart handled his success.
He said, “I always listen to what really successful people say.” “There are always hints as to what they’re feeling.” I have always admired that, despite all his success, he is still focused on the next play or game, and the next practice session. He knows the results are a result of the work you put in.
Harman, who had shown off the trophy on Monday to Smart and other Georgia students on campus, added another great moment Tuesday night. He threw the first pitch in the Atlanta Braves vs. New York Mets game.
